Many Of Us Naturally Have Bad Posture

Slouching is common among individuals nowadays as we live our daily lives consumed by entertainment such as Netflix and technology. People are constantly spending their days laying in bed or slumped over the couch browsing endlessly on their phones. Compared to sitting tall with your shoulders back, the majority of us find it natural to slouch. Even at the office, instead of having your chest out, shoulders back with your head straight, we are hunched over our desks typing away on our laptops for several hours.

In some cases, those who are tall tend to avoid drawing attention to them, thus, they end up slouching or hunching back to make them look less tall. Another common factor as to why we naturally have bad posture is the use of high heels. Ladies, when you are wearing 6-inch heels strolling about, your back tends to curve very extensively. This is extremely bad for your back as well.

Without a doubt, fashion models need good posture not just for promotional purposes, but also for their overall well being. When you have bad posture, you are more likely to experience pain and soreness around your back and shoulder area. Aside from that, having your shoulders slouched could also influence your diaphragm and affect your breathing by limiting the airways. According to research, in order to enhance your confidence, standing tall and upright could help as well as making you feel good about yourself. Studies have shown how good posture helps to boost productivity by providing optimal oxygen and blood in the body.

How To Improve Your Posture

One of the easiest ways to know if you have a bad posture is when you have severe lower back pain or around your shoulders. When you experience pain, yoga and physiotherapy classes help to provide relief. These classes encourage you to stretch your body and realign your spine by offering exercises that straighten your back. Aside from that, you can also try out the Back in Action Program by Kimberly Clark as it is known to not only cure back pain but improve your posture as well. While you are at your desk, it is recommended to adjust your chair so that your eyes are leveled with the top of the screen. Don’t forget to take frequent breaks as well and go for a walk. You can opt to take the stairs instead of the elevator or lift. By right, it is suggested to exercise at least 30 minutes each day. As a model, you can always practice by looking at a mirror to make sure your posture looks right. Take several shots of your pose and compare them. Sometimes you could look like you are standing upright, but in actual fact, you are simply just sticking your chest out. Try walking around the room with a book on your head to make sure you are standing upright. Despite having to wear heels during catwalks, you should always take them off immediately whenever you are not required to wear them.

Fashion Models Need To Have Good PostureWhy Fashion Models Need To Have Good Posture

First and foremost, models need to portray a tall, strong, and confident aura, especially during photoshoots and castings. Most casting agents would prefer someone who radiates positive energy into the room. When you have bad posture, you could come off as a lazy, disinterested, and shy person. With a good posture, you will naturally feel good about yourself, boosting your self-esteem which can be seen by others in the room. By having a good posture standing upright, not only will you look good on camera, but also in the eyes of the agents. Learn some poses that look great on camera with the right posture and practice them. As a fashion model, you have to wear clothes while walking on the runway. By walking upright, you will be able to pull off the catwalk effortlessly as you walk down the runway with the designer’s clothes. Fashion models also need to have good posture in order to look thinner and elegant. Naturally, your spine should have a natural ‘S’ curve instead of the ‘C’ curve. Models are required to have the ‘S’ curve to perform the catwalk on the runway. If you want to succeed as a fashion model, having a good posture is a must. Tighten that stomach, squeeze your shoulder blades and strut your stuff!
